Who really knows?
Olivia and I went shopping and both ate a fast-food burger while we were out. She brought home her leftovers, and Claus saw her snacking out of the greasy bag, but nobody actually said to him what we did out.
He assumed only Olivia ate, like maybe I swung through the drive-through because she was hungry.
I assumed that he assumed that Olivia and I were both fed.
Dinnertime, and he kept asking if we were hungry. Finally, teetering on the edge of "late" for our suppertime, he scrounged something out of the fridge and then asked me why I wasn't hungry.
"We ate out," I replied.
"I wish you had told me. I was waiting for us to all eat," he said.
"Sorry! I didn't know that you didn't know," I apologized.
"How could I know that you didn't know that I didn't know?" Claus responded.
"I thought you knew!" I said.
"So, you didn't know that I didn't know that you didn't know that I didn't know," he summed.
I... don't know???
