Today, I choose to be happy

For my friend Sharon, who struggles sometimes – as do we all.

Today, I choose to be happy.

I am grateful for what works in my life, both big and small.

I sat for morning meditation and paid attention to the birds chirping outside and the way the breeze felt over my skin.

The sky is blue and pretty. The leaves sway gently. A rainbow came out briefly.

My dog has the kindest brown eyes and soft fur. She is the most loving being I know. There is only love with her. Well, love and a never ending desire for my lunch.

My daughter remembered to bring her homework home today. Finally.

My bed is soft, and the room is cool. The crickets hum pleasantly outside, one of my favorite night noises.

When it feels there is nothing to be thankful for, I am still thankful for my breath.

It’s important to remember that you choose your own happiness. Say it aloud once a day and let the Universe adapt the circumstances to fit.

Today, I choose to be happy.
